The 2022 Pest and Disease Treatment Timelines

To maximise the effectiveness of the products there is a need to understand the relevant life cycles and have a clear plan of action of when to use them. This can be supported by implementing an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy. This is an ecosystem-based strategy that focuses on long-term prevention of pests through a combination of techniques such as, biological control, habitat manipulation, modification of cultural practices, and use of resistant varieties of plant species.

Pesticides are used only after monitoring indicates they are needed according to established guidelines, and treatments are made with the goal of removing only the target organism. Pest control materials are selected and applied in a manner that minimises risks to human health, beneficial and nontarget organisms, and the environment.

These products are very effective tools when used in conjunction with an appropriate IPM strategy to manage and control Chafer and Leatherjacket populations, weed problems and turf grass diseases commonly found to be a problem in the UK turfgrass industry.
